Introducing Self-Care Isn't Selfish

Welcome to my fun, challenging, self-care blog. This is a place where we’re going to learn together that self-care is not selfish. It is time to rewind the thought that putting ourselves first is selfish instead of necessary. Here, we’re going to focus on de-stressing, decluttering, and making our self-care something to look forward to, instead of feeling guilty. I know I’ve felt guilty for doing something for myself before, and I never want to feel that way again.

“Self-care means giving the world the best of you, instead of what is left of you.” Katie Reed, mental health blogger.

This is a quote from Katie Reed, who runs The Borderline Blog. Katie, if you’re reading this, yes I am a big fan of yours.

Who am I?

Hi, I'm Hannah. I am a senior in college. I'm currently working, attending classes, doing an internship, and involved with the radio station on campus. I'm also a young woman who is putting herself first, for basically the first time in my life.

This blog is for my New Media class. My professor, who is amazing, has tasked us with different guides for each post every week. I am so excited to start this blog to share my tips and content with you.

Backstory

We all know Covid hit the United States in 2020, which was the middle of my second semester freshman year. Instead of being able to experience college like those prior to me, I have gone through quite a bit of online classes. While being in lockdown, I had a great sense of uncertainty. This lead to more stress, quite a bit of clutter, and really putting myself on the back burner. I never made time for what I wanted to do, because something else always had to be done first.

What’s the point?

I’ve reached my point of burnout to where I am putting myself first. On this blog, we’re going to focus on ourselves without feeling guilty for it. Now this does not mean flipping our entire lives overnight, but it does mean making little changes often. These little changes for me will be focusing on getting rid of what is not bringing me joy. I’ll be doing more self-care, whether that be a spa night, working out, or just experiencing new things alone. I have learned that being alone is not a bad thing, it just becomes comfortable over time.

Plain and simple, the point of the blog is to start putting you first. No guilt, shame, or anxiety tied with it. It is time to do things to make me, me again. Thanks for sticking around, see you next time with some tips for self-care!
