A Quote Important to Me

Welcome back! I'm so happy you're here. This week, my professor tasked us to write about a quote that has resonated with us. I have so many that I believe in, and have changed my outlook on things. My number one quote that I believe is, "Your idea of me is not my responsibility to live up to." (Author unknown by me at this time.)

I have always thought that I needed to live up to other peoples expectations. I felt that way all throughout my high school years. I needed to overwork and get the best grades. I needed to have a job, be in the gym, consistently be with my friends. I needed to do it all, and all in 24 hours. Now, I don't think like that.

My only responsibility to others is to provide kindness and understanding. My only responsibility to others is to treat people how I wanted to be treated. I don't owe anyone a damn thing. (Unless it's under special circumstances.) But I DO owe it to myself to provide the life I want. I want to achieve my dream career, live in a nice house, get a dog, and live comfortably. I owe myself the hard work now, to be able to enjoy later.

Now don't get me wrong, I do owe myself the ability to enjoy my life right now. I owe myself the ability to look at the exciting things I have coming up. My best friend is getting married this summer. My nephew turns 1. I graduate with a Bachelors degree at the end of this year. I owe myself the ability to celebrate those milestones. I WILL enjoy those milestones. But, that doesn't mean I will put myself on the back burner.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that you do not have to live up to expectations from other people. You cannot always try to exceed expectations from others, because you will get burnt out. I'm burnt out. Now that I'm realizing these things, I'm living for me. I do what I want, when I want. That's important. Live the way you want, you only get one shot.

Give yourself grace, take a break, and drink your water. Everything will be okay. See you next time for a fun surprise! :)
